Caramel PopCorn Candy Cups 🙂
Caramel popcorn is the perfect treat for kids and for us. Making small cute looking cups with these was so much fun. A day full of joy, laughter and fun. You know what kids enjoyed the most about these Caramel PopCorn Candy Cups?
They enjoyed filling those cups with the candy of their choice. M&M’s, chocolate gold coins, gummy bears, Hershey’s Kisses. We had our small Christmas celebration before Christmas. They are crunchy, caramelized and very addictive.
Making these cute cups is another super simple recipe. You will need popcorn. Make them in the microwave or make them in the presser cooker;either ways they will work great. Then prepare caramel and pour over the popcorn. Quickly transfer into the muffin tray shaping each individual cup in the shape of a small bowl. Here you will have to send the kids out of the kitchen and work with the popcorn when they are little hot. Because the popcorn will start to set quickly and you won’t be able to mold them.
Worry not ! I have a trick to trick those hard stubborn popcorn if they refuse to work with you. Just pop them in the hot oven for a minute and they will be good to go. Still I would recommend working quickly with caramelized popcorn.
Before making the caramel I recommend reading all the instructions given in the link below. Guys it’s worth reading because caramel making can be tricky some times if the method is not followed precisely.
[recipe title=[recipe title=” Caramel PopCorn Candy Cups ” time=” 20minutes” difficulty=”medium “]
1. One packet of microwave popcorn
2. 1/4th cup of cream
3. 1/2 cup of granulated white sugar
4. 2 tablespoons of corn syrup
5. 1 teaspoons of vanilla extract
6. 1 teaspoon of butter, room temperature
Prepare the popcorn as the instructions given on the packet and pour them into a big mixing bowl.
For the caramel- In a heavy bottomed medium-sized sauce pan, stir together the cream, sugar , and corn syrup using a wooden spoon or heat proof spatula. Place the sauce pan over medium high heat and bring to boil. Don’t stir the mixture once sugar is melted and the mixture boils. However you can swirl the pan periodically.
You will have to boil the mixture until the temperature reaches 250* F, Check with your thermometer. This might take from 10 to 15 minutes. Once you read 250* F, remove from the heat and stir in vanilla extract and butter. Don’t over stir the mixture, just be gentle. Pour the mix over the prepared popcorn and mix using two wooden spoons.
All the popcorns might not get covered but I think that is alright because it can become too sweet. Then quickly put a little of caramelized popcorn into each cup of the muffin tray and shape it with hands. It can be little hot, but won’t be crazy hot. You will be able to handle it. Each cup will take the shape quickly, and for taking them out of the muffin tray; just prise them out with a gentle hand. You can serve them as it is or get the kids involved into the activity of filling each cup with the candy of their choice.
