You can buy the candied orange peels from the market or make it home. Recipe is quite simple.

1.  Wash the orange.

2. Use a zester to peel the thin long ribbons from the orange. Make sure you don’t peel the white inner along because its the bitter part.

3. Put them into boiling water for at least 3 minutes to get rid of the residual bitterness.

4. In another pan, Boil water and sugar together. Use same amount of sugar and water.

5. When the sugar is dissolved add the orange zest and cook for sometime till sugar syrup is  reduced or until zest is tender and looks a little translucent.

6. In another tray add some fine granulated sugar and put in the cooked and drained Orange zest.

7. Roll the peel pieces, a few at a time, in sugar. Let it dry on wire rack several hours. Store in airtight container.

[recipe title=[recipe title=”Easy Fudge – Chocolate Orange flavor  ” time=” 30minutes” difficulty=”easy”]

INGREDIENTS

1.  1 cup of chopped walnuts or pecans or pistachio roasted

2.  One 14 ounce tin of sweetened condensed milk

3.  400 gm of semi sweet or bittersweet chocolate chopped

4.  2 tablespoons of butter

5.  1 tablespoon of orange essence

6. 1/4 cup of candied orange peels

METHOD

Line the bottom and sides of a 9 inch square pan with parchment paper. And set aside.

Combine the chopped chocolate, condensed milk and butter in a heatproof bowl over a double boiler. Melt the chocolate mix, stirring constantly. Make sure that the mixture does not get too hot. Stir until smooth and thick.

Remove from the heat and add in the orange essence and chopped roasted nuts. Mix all to combine. Spread the fudge evenly in the prepared pan. Smooth the top using a offset spatula. Sprinkle the orange candied peel all over.

Let it stand at room temperature until completely cold. Keep it overnight to set well. Mumbai is so hot, so I preferred keeping the prepared fudge in the fridge for sometime before cutting into pieces.

Carefully remove the fudge from the pan when set properly. Use a long sharp knife to cut into the pieces.

This is a wonderful treat to be enjoyed with friends and is really easy to prepare. Enjoy!
