I think Homemade pumpkin puree is more delicious because of the roasting and caramlizing which really adds to the aroma and flavor. Use a smaller pumpkin to make the puree at home because they have more natural sweetness and less stringy membrane. The deeper the color, the sweeter the flavor. So choose your pumpkin wisely for making puree at home.

Mostly if you roast a pumpkin, it’s just cutting, peeling and roasting and finally puree it in the food processor. I added a little bit brown sugar and salt with a drizzle of olive oil. I think that added a lot in the flavor. You can also  add in some spice eg. cinnamon, cloves or ginger powder.

INGREDIENTS

1.  One whole pumpkin (Small)

2. 1/4th teaspoon of salt

3. 1/2 tablespoon of brown sugar

4. 2 tablespoons of olive oil to drizzle

METHOD

Slice the pumpkin into half and scoop out whole bunch of seeds along with any stringy membranes. (You can roast those seeds and they make a yumm munch). Peel the pumpkin and cut out the wedges. Place the wedges on a baking tray and drizzle some olive oil , sugar and salt.

Pop in the oven and bake for about 30 minutes. at 200* C. Or until pumpkin is tender. Poke a knife into a piece to check is the pumpkin is done or not. If the knife is easy and pokes without any resistance –  Pumpkin is done.

Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack. Use a food processor or a potato masher to puree the roasted pumpkin. You can store this in the fridge for several days and in the fridges for several weeks.

Here is the recipe of Pumpkin Bread I made using the same pumpkin puree.
